Incredible Shrinking Woman

Not related but I wanted to first say, that movie used to disturb the shit out of me when I was young. And it always seemed to be on when I woke up early on the weekends.

On to my post...

When my friend Molli visited from NYC and brought me loads of jeans, she brought various sizes to fit me during the post-pregnancy transition. The pair I liked the best were the smallest but they were far from closing. The largest pairs I could get on but it wasn't pretty enough to leave the house in. Well a couple days ago I tried the smallest pair on again just to see how much further I needed to go. Surprisingly, they fit! And they fit well! I dropped 2 sizes in a month, woo hoo. I better get something out of this allergy deal. I haven't gotten on a scale yet but I am pretty sure I'm only mere pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight. I never thought I would be able to lose all 60 pounds. Well, I never thought I'd be eating the way I am either but what can ya do. Take the good with the bad.

What is really weird though is that my upper body is still fat. I have the fat belly, the fat arms. This used to always be the good half of me. And when I've lost weight before, it always went from the top first. So my upper body would have to get all skeletor before my body would even concider taking any fat from my butt and thighs. Now, it seems to be going away from the bottom up. Definitely a good thing and something abnormal for me but I'm so used to having nice arms, I hate seeing them all puffy still when I think I'm losing weight (see photo to the right). With all that said, I would prefer to weigh 10 more pounds and actually have some muscle in this flab suit. Muscle is something that is MIA from this bod. Oh well, at least it makes stuffing myself into clothes much easier when you are all squishy.

hah! Squishy! That made me laugh...I know you what you mean, tho. Muscles would be nice to see again. Congrats on losing your weight---you look great. I guess existing on only 3-4 foods isn't the most recommended way to do it, but sometimes you gotta do stuff you wouldn't choose! Hope your cute little guy gets better and better. good luck....

Ah to have muscles, still in that photo we can't see your butt, but the rest of you looks good. You will get there. Just keep lifting the boy and that should tone your arms.

Grrr. I am still squishy. If you find the secret to making it go away, then you must share! Part of me has resigned myself to the "mom bod", then the other part of me wants to fight like hell (or die trying!)

One year later and my abs are "water bed-ish". But hon, nice job losing the weight. Sorry you had to go about it the hard way.

I only have ten-ish pounds left but boy, that ten-ish pounds looks to much different post baby, hu.

Congratulations! It took me a year to get back to pre-baby weight and then I found out I was pregnant again! I am excited for you. Looking back at pictures of when my boy was 3 or 4 months old, I thought I looked squishy up top too and after a year I looked more normal. I think when you are nursing you tend to hold more up there. At least, I did. And your face looks super skinny in the pic! Congrats! What a great feeling!

Congrats on the jeans! That's such a good feeling. And I am soooo sorry I haven't called or written -- started back to work and found out that our little E has GERD (reflux), so I haven 't had much sleep these last few weeks (day or night). We're doing much better now tho, so I'll be in touch soon. I PROMISE!!! Forgive us??
Luv ya TONS!

wow, taht's great about the jeans! it's always a welcome surprise when i try on something i don't think is gonna fit and it does. just be careful you don't lose so much weight that they get too big for you!

a friend told me that when you're nursing you tend to store fat in the upper body (arms and back), so what's going on with you makes sense. as for why i still have fat arms when i stopped nursing months ago...it's a mystery! heh.
