Boy parts anyone?
What's up with the leaky diapers! We have a boy, obviously, so I know to put his wee-wee down so he doesn't pee out the top of his diaper but now he has started to leak out the back and/or side! We use Pampers Swaddlers (I know cloth may be better, but not ready for that yet!) We finally went up to size 1, even though the Newborns we're still in his weight range, once we realized baby's butt cracks shouldn't show. Ahhh, like father like son. We thought that would help it from coming out the back. But the size 1 seem almost too big but what do we know.
Everyone I asked recommended the Pampers Swaddlers and we were really happy with them at first. And I don't think it's the diaper because the pediatrician gave us some other brands like Huggies and I had some others but they all did it. So maybe it's us?? Putting a diaper on correctly doesn't seem that hard, there are only so many ways to do it.
Do any boy mamas have any tips?

I have been reading your site since right before your delivery. I am sorry your delivery didn't go as expected or planned but that you got a beautiful end result!
Boy babies and diapers- My son just turned one and I remember some serious blow-outs of pooh! And diaper sizing is screwed up. It seems like he is always in the size above what they say he should be.
And whatever works the best for you and your family for baby care- do it. Every baby is different and needs different things. And every mommy is different and can handle different things.
Have you started the baby wearing yet? I am interested to hear how that goes. My son hated the sling but liked a Moby wrap thing. Again, each baby is different!
During 8 years of nanny work I discovered that Safeway brand diapers are the only ones that never leak.
You said you're not ready for my suggestion...
but I have girls, so what do I really know!
I'm not sure they make a diaper to not leak for a boy lol. Never had a problem with my girl but Keith would always always leak.
Hmmmm, we used Swaddlers, then Baby Dry, and now Cruisers with no leaks until Ryan was a nit older. It took me a few months to realize that he was leaking b/c of how he slept (on his tummy butt in the air - this was after he could roll himself there, I still lay him on his back but he never stays).
My only suggestions would be to point it down and velcro those suckers super tight.
I hated Huggies for the record - the little squirmer wiggled out of them twoce while sleeping in a sleep sack!
humm I would say its the Pampers..my son did the same thing, and we switched to Huggies and he stopped leaking..
we had lots of leaks including "rocket poops" which used to rocket out the top of the back of the diaper!
you might try putting the diaper up a little higher on the waist, snugger down below.
i would try changing more often as well.
they do make "diaper doubler" inserts for diapers, but i'm not sure if they make them for the little babes...
lastly ive been told if they are leaking you need to go up a size, never mind the poundage on the boxes and what they say.
i used to put my boy down to sleep on top of a cloth diaper (on top of his bed) at night to prevent leaking.
Hmmm...sounds like this is a hit or miss situation. I have 2 boys & really only ever had a problem with #1 in the very early weeks. And that problem was with poops (god, how many times did I get pooped on in one day?! too many to count!).
DS2 was cloth-diapered from the start so no leakage issues w/ him at all.
It sounds to me like the pee just isn't being absorbed by the diaper. I never pointed my sons' penises in any particular direction. Maybe just let it point towards the sky? lol
our favorite diapers are Pampers. i never pointed his wee-wee down, though. i think diapers leak alot when you have a newborn; it's just impossible to keep up with the volume!
We had the exact same problem. Every time he peed, it got all over the place, I don't even know why we bothered with diapers. I've never liked pampers personally, I always liked huggies.
But anyway, my only advice is to wait it out until he chunks out a little, so he fills the diaper better. And take lots, and lots of changes of clothes with you. Oh and get used to doing LOTS of laundry.
point the " peanut" down. HIP used to pee all over creation.( So did Millie Sue for that matter) & We finally figured out direction is key. Try a large gauze pad as a liner. Maybe he nees something to old his "bud" in place.
