The things that make me want to back out

Talk about some cold feet. I know chances of some of these happening aren't likely but one can't help but think about them!

  1. 4th degree perenium tears - you know the ones that go from your vagina to your rectum!!
  2. Episiotomy - the concept just seems so wrong!
  3. Epidural needle - the fact this big ass needle has to go in your spine which could have permanent complications
  4. Getting an epidural only to find out it's not working or numbed the wrong part of my body
  5. Dropping a turd on the delivery table (and catching it on video) - albeit common, still embarrassing none the less
  6. The fact that what is coming out of me is much larger than the whole it has to come out of
  7. The thought of my cervix being forced open. He couldn't get his finger in there Tuesday to do it, what if he can't tomorrow? Then what happens?!
  8. The overall pain of child birth - I haven't had 1 real contraction yet, I have no idea what this stuff feels like and all I hear is how it's much harder and faster when you are induced.
  9. Post Partum Depression - that's some scary shit and I kind of feel like I'm doomed
  10. Having to bring the baby home and actually keep it alive and well for the rest of his life

Worth it? I know it is but I'm sure this shit will still keep me up all night!

All normal. Trust me, when you are in the midst of labor, half of them won't even cross your mind. And when you have your baby in your arms, you will forget what you were worrying about in the first place. Well, except the keeping baby alive thing. That you'll worry about...forever, probably. But, remember that babies are pretty resilient (watch how the L&D nurses fling them around) and (I know this is weird advice) it takes A LOT for a baby to get dehydrated. Like, days of no feeding (according to my ped.) Oh! And feeling like to have to poop is a good thing. Birthing feels *exactly* like you are pushing out the biggest BM of your life. So if you feel that sensation try to relax and go with it. It means baby will be here soon! Worrying is excellent prep for being a parent. And you will do fine. Can't wait to read your blog once baby is born!

I just wanted to wish you the best tomorrow. Just remember that YOU are the patient--don't be afraid to ask for whatever you need or feel like you're "bothering" the nurses--they are there to take care of you.

**Quick and painless delivery vibes coming your way!**

I totally agree w/ Darlene. YOU are the patient and YOU call the shots. Don't be afraid to speak up & make demands.

You're going to do just fine tomorrow. I'm hoping that you go into labor on your own tonight though :)

I am pretty sure I poo'ed a bit with all 3 of my deliveries. I know I definately did with #3. I'm pretty modest when it comes to that kind of thing but you know what? I *so* totally did not care and I still don't. Yes, I shit a little bit when I pushed an 8 1/2 lb. baby out of a hole the size of a lemon. If someone has a problem with it they can go straight to hell! HA!.

You'll be great. And this is SO friggin' normal I can't even tell you. I think I have the same list around here somewhere.. under poopy diapers and dirty bottles I think, but she's well, alive and happy. :-)
