Population Control
As I head off to my 6 week post-pregnancy follow up appointment, I'm curious to know what everyone used for birth control while breast feeding. I'm not sure what to do. I'm a pill person but that leaves the mini-pill which I don't really know anything about. I don't even know what all my options, I've always been strictly a pill girl for as long as I can remember!

well, I guess it depends on how badly you DO NOT want to get pregnant again? the diaphragm works pretty well, when you use it. :)
I had the mirena IUD inserted last Wednesday, easy as pie. I never have to worry about taking a pill or inserting anything before hand. 99.9% effective for five years. Hooray.
Also pricey as hell if insurance doesn't cover it.
I;m planning to breastfeed and am a pill person too. But I heard women aren;t supposed to take the pill while milking.

I liked the progesterone only pill (mini pill). i can't take any estrogen pills because of side effect problems. you might talk to your dr. and consider the nuva ring - vaginal ring inserted once a month. it can decrease milk supply and did for me, but does only 20% of people who use it.
i got a 10 year IUD. set it and forget it. just call your insurance and make sure it's covered first! also now my periods are longer and more painful but it's worth it.
we went with good old fashioned condoms and are pregnant with number 2! so I have no suggestions.
sex wasn't really an issue at our house for months. and when it was we used condoms - blech. but when i wanted to get pregnant again i didn't have to get off the pill...so there's that...
i've known plenty of women happy as pie on the mini-pill, though.
We just used condom's in between kids.

Again, stay away from any combination type birth control. You don't want to deal with milk supply issues, especially when it could be prevented, kwim?
I have the Mirena IUD. LOVE IT! Haven't had a period since it was inserted back in February.
From reading your posts thus far, I'd say you're more like me than not. I'll tell you that we chose to use condoms between babies. I didn't want to take the pill. And I was never a fan of putting additional hormones into my body, which would then pass on to my baby. So we chose condoms.
And this is where I have to disagree (sorry, Kate) I was talked into an IUD (Mirena) after the birth of my last baby. I bled for 5 months straight! Besides the damage and side effects of a 5-month long period, I was never comfortable with the idea of having some foreign object stuck up in my uterus. And though chances of getting pregnant are slim, it CAN happen. If you get pregnant with an IUD, you are automatically put into the "high risk" category, and there are all sorts of complications. I had mine removed, and we are back to the condoms. It's (I feel) the safest form of birth control.
One last thing, when my friend went in to have her Mirena IUD removed, they found one of the arms to be stuck in the up position. After three hours of trying to yank this thing out of her uterus, they decided she needed to have surgery. Needless to say, I am against IUD's.
